The Terrace Community Middle School Board of Directors announces it will accept applications for a vacancy on the Board. Applicants should email their resume and a letter of explanation and interest in this position to Lew Kirk, Nominating Committee Chairman at email@example.com AND Principal Tahvia Shaw at firstname.lastname@example.org. Special consideration will be given to applicants with Educational Leadership, Academic Development and Curriculum Evaluation experience. Terrace Community Middle School is a non for profit public charter school. Years of work preceded the granting of our Charter on April 7, 1998. In 1994, a group of parents became concerned their children were not acquiring the skills necessary to succeed in high school, college, and the work place. This group was joined by an equally concerned group of teachers and business leaders in the community. An Advisory Board was established to determine the ideal way to achieve our goal. The goal was simple: Establish a school to teach all students to read critically, write coherently, and use numbers comfortably as tools. A modified Department of Defense Curriculum was chosen because it is a classic core curriculum designed to be implemented on a limited budget. In January 1998, the Back-To-Basics Charter School Foundation, Inc. was incorporated and an administrative board was established. We were granted a charter three months later. The first year commenced in August 1998 with fifth through seventh grades. Eighth grade was added in the 1999-2000 school year which also marked our first graduating class. We invite all parents and interested parties to attend the Board of Directors meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 pm in Room 208. Minutes of all Board meetings are available online. Please feel free to contact the Board of Directors with any questions you might have. We invite everyone to be an active participant in TCMS.
Mrs. Alba Más is a Registered Landscape Architect and Professional Engineer. She received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida and a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of South Florida. Mrs. Más is Director of the Regulation Division of the Southwest Water Management District.

Mrs. Tiffany Sperry, Director is a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and the University of St. Augustine For Health Sciences with her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. She has specialized in Orthopedic physical therapy and sports medicine for the past 14 years. She started her career at HealthSouth Rehabilitation in Tampa and Brandon before becoming a clinic manager at Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa. Recently, she has been on staff at Therapy and Sports Center of Brandon, while raising her 3 children. Mrs. Sperry grew up in Temple Terrace and returned in 2008 with her family. Recently, she has been on staff at Therapy and Sports Center of Brandon and currently works for Achieve Home Care. She has been actively involved with the Lewis PTA for the past 8 years. She serves on the BDCHS Board of Directors and is also very active in the community, volunteering with her children's sports team, HOA, and King High School alumni.
Mr. Gil Schisler is a founding member of the Board who is committed to the fiscal integrity of Terrace Community Middle School and the Foundation on which it was created. He brings his business operations and financial background to TCMS from his years of professional experience as the Controller for the Fluid Regulation Division of CIRCOR International, with over 25 years of executive management experience in finance and accounting. He holds an Accounting Degree from the University of South Florida. Mr. Schisler has no children at TCMS. His being active with TCMS is merely a continuation of his deep commitment to the community.
Mrs. Creah Demps has spent the majority of her professional career as a senior administrator within post-secondary institutions. Currently, she continues this passion for education with the University of South Florida, where she leads initiatives to increase the outreach and access for historically underrepresented populations. Mrs. Demps completed her undergraduate studies with a double major in Business Management and Psychology from the University of Tampa. She has also attained a Master’s of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. She resides in Tampa, Florida with her husband and two beautiful children.
Lew Kirk, Ph.D., is a founding member of TCMS. As a Board member he served as a past Treasurer and Secretary. He also was a past President of the Lewis Elementary PTA and served on the City of Temple Terrace School Improvement Task Force. His son graduated from TCMS in 2000. He has been involved for many years in the Temple Terrace Community as a volunteer coach and team manager for the Florida Soccer Club. Dr. Kirk holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science. He retired after 23 years as a medical practice administrator.
Ms. Lynne Volpe is originally from New York City where she began her teaching career. She moved to the Temple Terrace area in 1974, and received a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida. Ms. Volpe retired in 2005 from the Hillsborough County School District. Her last position with the district was as Assistant Principal for Magnet Curriculum at King High School, in charge of the International Baccalaureate Program. She subsequently worked as a consultant for the International Baccalaureate Organization. Currently, she is a member of the Tampa Community Band.
Mr. Todd Amaden, Director, is a Vice President of Landmark Engineering & Surveying Corporation. He has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a practicing Civil Engineer. He and his wife Lori live in Brandon with their three children.
Mr. Greg Mesaros is the founder & CEO of Triadex Services, a marketing communications company, and the inventor of 45 US patents. He has started and/or acquired businesses for the past two decades. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University and his Masters in Finance from Loyola Marymount University. He also completed advanced studies in International Business and New Technology at Case Western Reserve University. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, he and his wife have two children, one of whom will be a sixth grader at TCMS in the fall of 2017. Mr. Mesaros and his family have lived in Tampa for the past ten years.
Lonnie Bryant, Ph.D. is a Professor of Finance at the University of Tampa (UT) specializing in Valuation. While at UT, Professor Bryant has served in various leadership roles including the Interim Director of the Graduate Programs, Finance Department Chairperson and Academic Coordinator of the Master Programs. Lonnie holds a doctorate degree from the University of South Florida in Business Administration Finance, a Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina and The Escuela Superior de Administracion y Direccion de Empresas (ESADE) and an Electrical Engineering degree from the Florida A&M University/ Florida State University College of Engineering. Dr. Bryant’s professional experiences include Cap Gemini Ernst Young Consulting firm, Proctor and Gamble Inc., Kimberly-Clark Co., National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA)-Johnson Space Center, Tampa Electric Company (TECO) and the College of Charleston. Lonnie has served the Tampa Bay community by serving on the Hillsborough County School Board Accounting and Finance Board of Directors, Florida Head Start Policy Council and Head Start Foundation. Lonnie and his wife, LaToya, live in Temple Terrace and have two children, one of which will be attending TCMS in the Fall of 2019.
